Gulfport man arrested and charged after barricading himself in home

Gulfport police were in a standoff for hours after a man barricaded himself insides a home.

At 5:30 this morning Gulfport police were doing a follow up investigation to an aggravated assault that happened last night. They believed that the suspect was inside a home in the 2200 block of 21st Street.

Officers attempted to speak with those inside, but they refused to leave. Multiple units were on the scene, including Gulfport’s SWAT Team.  As well as negotiators, who were able to get two other people out of the home safely. After almost four and a half hours, police were able to get the primary suspect out of the house using multiple rounds of teargas.

Chief Leonard Papania says, “These are the resolutions you always want. These are the outcomes we look for and while much of it is dictated by the offenders, we certainly try and apply the best and current training so we get the outcomes we want. In matter like this you just take your time.”

Thirty-two year old Damian Ladell Brown of Gulfport with aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling. No one was hurt during this incident. Gulfport police say they are still continuing this investigation.
