Gulfport Homeowner Tax Break

The first homeowner to take advantage of a Gulfport tax break has had their tax break approved by the City Council. The tax break allows new home or business owners to pay no city taxes for the first seven years they own the property.
It’s available to new homes or businesses built between the Gulfport city lines below the train tracks, excluding downtown. The minimum investment for a house facing the beach is $400,000 and $100,000 for houses off the beach. The investment for commercial property is $1 million.
City leaders hope the tax break spurs development along the Coast. Gulfport Urban Development Director Greg Pietrangelo said, “But now, since insurance has come down, people understand the stronger they build, the fortification they build and then you throw a little tax abatement on top of that. It kind of makes it plausible now to build. It’s helped spur some development and brought some developers in that are interested in building along Highway 90.”
If you have any questions about this tax abatement, call the Gulfport Office of Urban Development and Planning at 228-868-5790.
