Gulfport High Students Get to be Teachers for a Day
The two year program is a course these students take at the high school, where they learn about effective teaching. They then go into classrooms at West Elementary and Gulfport Central Middle Schools and get hands on experience with student teaching. This course is designed to give students experience before they go on to college to see if this is a career path they really want to take.
Tanner Hamilton, a senior at Gulfport High, says, “Really the worst part about the program though is at the end of the year when you have to say goodbye to them all. It’s pretty sad. History is my favorite subject because not everyone likes history, but I love it. So making other kids love it would really be a pretty good deal for me.”
Gulfport High students tell News 25 they feel like they’re getting a leg up and will be a step ahead of the game when they get to college.
