Gulfport High senior reacts to school closings

One Gulfport high senior is sharing her thoughts regarding the cancellation of school for the remainder of the semester.

Jaden Hickman is involved in Key Club at School and was also a part of the Lady Admirals state championship winning soccer team this year.

While she’s disappointed in the fact that she won’t return to campus for classes, the future Mississippi State Bulldog is focused on wrapping up distance learning and her work at Perk’s Coffee Shop.

She, like many of her fellow seniors, understands the importance of social distancing right now. “We do remember that a lot of older generations are starting to get sick by it and it’s really sad. So, we try to keep ourselves distant.”

The Gulfport School District announced today each senior, along with up to four family members, will have a set time from May 11th to May 15th at the Ray Bishop Auditorium to walk across the stage and take graduation photos in an altered graduation ceremony.

This, along with graduation speeches, will be taped, edited, and streamed on on May 27th at 7 p.m.
