Gulfport High School Helps with Cancer Battle
The students and faculty of Gulfport High School hosted a spaghetti dinner this afternoon, all in hopes of raising money for a fellow Admiral.
Donny Faerber is a freshman at Gulfport High and is in the midst of a battle with leukemia. His fellow students put together this fundraiser with hopes of helping ease the financial burdens of cancer treatment. This was all for Donny, who they refer to as family. Several local businesses also donated items and the event was a big success.Gulfport High English teacher Pam Gunkel said, “We feel like at Gulfport High School, we’re like family. When Donny told us Italian was his favorite food, we were like ‘oh, that’s perfect’ because it’s like a family style dinner we can have.”
Gulfport High junior Abbey Coleman said, “It’s been a wonderful success. We were kinda iffy about how it would go because we were late planning it, but since it happened it was really good. I’m really excited.”
Abby’s message to Donny from the rest of the school is “Keep fighting, stay strong and we’re all fighting with you.” T-shirts and wristbands will be available at the school’s front office with the proceeds going towards Donny’s treatment.
