Gulfport High School football team to be quarantined for 14 days after 2 players, coach test positive for COVID-19

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — Effective immediately, the Gulfport High School football team will be quarantined for 14 days after two players and a coach tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Gulfport Director of Athletics Bryan Caldwell, “Gulfport High School is following CDC, Mississippi Department of Health, and Gulfport School District protocols with regard to contact tracing and the quarantining of these students. This is an effort to control the spread of COVID-19 in our school and community.”

Gulfport High will not play Friday’s Homecoming contest vs. West Harrison.

According to the Gulfport School District, “the Admirals hope to return to the football field October 16th against Harrison Central High School.”

The GHS Homecoming football game has been tentatively rescheduled for October 23rd vs. D’Iberville.
