Gulfport Hardwood Holiday Classic Family Affair for Pascagoula Boys Basketball Team

With Gulfport’s Hardwood Holiday Classic having been around for more than three decades, there are a lot of connections and ties back to the tournament for players and coaches. Just look at Pascagoula High School.
For starters, first year Head Coach Lorenzo Wright is a Gulfport alum that graduated in ’95 and he’s going back to coach in the event for just the second time since his playing days.
Not to mention Pascagoula’s coach from last year, Ron Norman, is now the head man of the 12-1 Meridian Wildcats.
If both schools win their opening games, there would be a second round showdown between the old friends, a strong barometer for the Panthers and their playoff aspirations. Pascagoula Guard Noel Jones said, “From now until the holiday classic, I think we need to combine as one a little more cause our Coach Norman, I heard he’s going to be in that classic and I’m hoping to see him in that classic. I’m hoping to play against my old coach because I know it’s going to be a dog fight.”
Coach Wright said, “It’s very important to know where we stand. Again, it gives you a good gauge of what you can expect going into the playoffs, going into district heading toward the playoffs. It’s a good measuring stick. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Pascagoula and St. Martin tip things off at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, the first game of the entire holiday classic.
