Gulfport Gives Back

A Gulfport youth build organization teamed up with Toms Shoes to give back to the community.
Over 10,000 pairs of shoes were delivered to the International Relief and Development Center early this afternoon. The organization, funded by the Department of Labor, helps young adults get their lives back on track by teaching them leadership and everyday life skills.
This is the third time they have partnered with Toms and they admit there is more to it than what’s on the surface. IRD Youth Build Director of Programs Jake Cook said, “It’s so fulfilling to my staff and to our students, you know, because, like I said, we can help someone out with a pair of shoes and they may not, because of our pride, say ‘I need these shoes. I need these shoes.’ But we know there’s a need there, so we continue to give it. This year, in the next couple of months, you’ll be seeing and hearing a lot about our organization and local communities here supporting them and putting shoes on little kids’ feet.”
The organization plans on delivering the shoes to Boys and Girls Clubs, churches, and schools along the Coast.
