Gulfport Fire Department welcomes new fire station #9

Things are heating up for the Gulfport Fire Department as they welcome their brand new fire station number 9 on Dedeaux Road.

Gulfport firefighters and city leaders cut the ribbon to the beautiful new facility this morning, complete with a kitchen, a classroom, a gym, and dorm rooms upstairs.

It’s been a decade long process with plenty of obstacles along the way, but Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt says it’s taken an incredible group effort to present this new station on time and on budget to the community. “The construction team, the architectural team, my command staff, deputy chiefs working on this tirelessly, the firefighters. It’s gonna be an immediate improvement in our training because we didn’t have a training facility up here in this northern part of the city, and so it was difficult for us to do effective training up here many times, now we’ve got a state of the art classroom, so that bodes well for the community.”

Station number 9 is the third facility built with the Gulfport Fire Department in the last 10 years. Chief Beyerstedt says firefighters will now be better prepared mentally and physically for whatever comes their way.
