Gulf Coast VA Improving

The Gulf Coast VA Hospital is doing better than ever and headed in the right direction. That was the message VA officials wanted to get across today.
The VA’s CEO and director addressed the media on how far they’ve come in the past year. In the past, veterans had complained they had long waits, sometimes over 30 days, to be seen by doctors. After adding hundreds of new staff and creating easier access, the V.A. says now over 90 percent of veterans that request an appointment are seen within 30 days. The VA attributes that to recruiting a top notch staff.
Director and CEO Anthony Dawson said, “I think by us being able to get some of that staff here that the care overall has indeed improved. They’re bringing their talents in and it’s impacting, not only the wait times, but the overall care quality that we have.”
Bill Parker, who uses the Gulf Coast VA, said, “Well, I’m healthy and I’m 76 years old. I wasn’t healthy when I got here 10 years ago. They have an excellent group of doctors that check everything on a regular basis. And I get an annual physical twice a year.”
The VA is always looking for volunteers. If you’re interested in donating your time, contact them at 228-523-5786.
