Gulf Coast Down Syndrome Society held the annual Buddy Walk this weekend
2020 marked the 20th annual Buddy Walk for the Gulf Coast Down Syndrome Society. However, this year’s walk looked a little different due to COVID-19.
Instead of a walk, dozens of cars made their way through a parade at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
Gulf Coast Down Syndrome Society Vice President Linda Stewart says it is important to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome and their families. “First of all, they’re just like you and me. They just have an extra chromosome. It’s very much about inclusion, advocacy for inclusion of our kids to be part of society. They can go get a job. They can do anything we can do.”
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
