Gulf Coast Symphony hosted ‘Scouts and the Symphony’

South Mississippians came out to experience the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra Concert this weekend at MGCCC.

The Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra partnered with the Pine Burr Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi to offer ‘Scouts and the Symphony’ as a special, kid-friendly opportunity to preview the concert that was held this weekend.

The scouts were able to learn about each instrument thanks to commentary from Conductor Peter Rubardt.

Will Shurley, den leader in Cub Pack 209 and member of the board of the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, tells News 25 orchestra gives the kids access to something new.  “It’s really important for people to have a well-rounded opportunity to learn about culture and to learn about the arts and so this is a way we feel like we are able to partner with a larger community to make sure that the next generation of citizens have the opportunity just to know that these things exist.”

Scouts from as far as Kosciusko and Yazoo City, Mississippi attended.
