Gulf Coast Scenic Byways Directional Signage Project grant

Today the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced they will be awarding a $25,000 grant to help fund the Gulf Coast Scenic Byways Directional Signage Project in Hancock County.
Hancock Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tish Williams said, “I don’t think that many people realize the effect that signage has on them. So, this grant is going to give us the opportunity to establish signage along Highway 90 which will direct visitors off Highway 90 and into our business districts.”
The project, managed by the Hancock Chamber, will support placing eleven signs along Highway 90 in Bay St. Louis and Waveland. Williams says she is hoping this will create a template that can be utilized across the Coast to help direct traffic towards local businesses.
Local Business Owner David Dickensauge said, “I think that people are kind of confused on how to get in here. I think that once they’re in here they are very happy to be here, but there is some difficulty in finding where the front part of Bay St. Louis is.”
Dickensauge says he thinks this new project will play a big role in bringing more attractions to Bay St. Louis. The signs are expected to be up by this time next year.
