Gulf Coast Running Club prepares for the Gulf Coast Marathon
With winter approaching and hopefully consistently cooler weather, you might want to ditch your sandals for some sneakers and join the Gulf Coast Running Club.
The club has been established for over 30 years and puts on multiple races throughout the Coast. They strive to build relationships between individuals encouraging health and fitness.
They are also less than a month away before some of these members head to the starting line for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon, one of the premiere running events on the Coast. The marathon is also a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. Gulf Coast Running Club Race Director Leonard Vergunst said, “The marathon is my favorite time of the year because it is cool. Those summer workouts are kinda hard when it’s really warm, even in the morning at 5:30 or 6, it is still hot. So, when marathon time comes around, cooler temperatures, longer distance, more training, but somehow it’s not as hard as running in the heat.”
While being marathon ready in less than a month could be a hard race to win against time, the Running Club is always welcoming new running partners.
