Gulf Coast Dragon Boat Festival

The weather was perfect on Saturday for the annual Dragon Boat Festival in Gulfport.

The United Way of South Mississippi hosted the event which featured dozens of teams. Each dragon boat is about 46 feet long and holds a team of 20 rowers.

Companies, organizations, and individuals formed teams for the races, all vying for the heavily-sought after trophy.

All proceeds from the event benefit the United Way of South Mississippi to improve education, health, and financial stability. United Way of South Mississippi CEO Kathy Springer said, “We give grants and we partner with a lot of community agencies. We collaborate a lot. We want to know what the needs are and we work hard to meet those needs in our community.”
