Gulf Coast Carnival Association’s 9th annual Run for the Beads 5K

Although Mardi Gras parades are not rolling, that did not stop the Gulf Coast Carnival Association from enjoying the good times.

The association held their 9th annual Run for the Beads 5K. The 5K is held to help raise money for the organization.

Around 100 people signed up for the 5K, but due to the weather many decided not to participate.

With COVID-19 canceling all of the Mardi Gras festivities this year, Gulf Coast Carnival Association Lt. Keith Wade tells News 25 they still want to keep some part of their traditions. “We are still trying to keep the Mardi Gras spirit alive. That’s really what this event is about is getting people out here. You see the people are dressed up. We are giving away beads. We are just trying to have a good time.”

Gulf Coast Carnival Association will continue hosting events throughout the year including a golf tournament.
