Gulf Blue celebrates one year anniversary on the Gulf Coast

Gulf Blue celebrates its one-year anniversary.

One year ago, the University of Southern Mississippi launched the Gulf Blue Initiative inside the historic Gulf and Ship Island building in Gulfport.

In the last year, the program exceeded annual goals, collecting 45 applications from blue tech companies after only expecting 30.

Companies from all across the country are moving to Mississippi for the blue economy innovation.

Gulf Blue helps place Mississippi on the global scale for blue economy related work. USM’s Senior Associate VP for Coastal Operations Shannon Campbell said, “We have brought on board public private partnerships where we have been targeting bringing companies to this region that are involved in research and development, innovation, new commercialization of products that are going into the ocean and coastal environments. So, we’ve had a tremendous response. We are definitely ahead of schedule of where we anticipated that we would be in a years’ time.”

The Gulf and Ship Island Building also offers office space with monthly membership rates for dedicated workspaces.
