GSSA Baseball and Softball World Series

You may notice a few extra girls and boys in uniform running around Gulfport this weekend.
They’re all in town for the GSSA Baseball and Softball World Series. The series got into full swing today at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
Kids ages four to 18 hit the fields for a first day of skills challenges through running, hitting and field drills. Kids with the best running times and most hits of out the parks win prizes.
Tomorrow the games will begin at 1 p.m. GSSA Fast Pitch President Buddy Taylor said, “This is our world series where they start off. They play the area, pre-areas, area and then they go to a state tournament then they come over here and they play the World Series in Gulfport. We have teams from Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama that will play here this weekend. They range anywhere from four or five, six year-old girls all the way up to 18-year-old girls. We have about 30 teams playing this weekend.”
Tickets are $8 at the gate. Pool play will begin tomorrow at 1.
