Groundbreaking Set for USM’s New Ocean Enterprise Facility

State leaders will gather in Gulfport today for the groundbreaking ceremony for USM’s Ocean Enterprise Facility.

Governor Phil Bryant, along with U.S. Senator Roger Wicker and U.S. Congressman Steven Palazzo, in conjunction with the Mississippi State Port Authority and USM, will gather to break ground today on a new $38 million Ocean Enterprise Facility at the Port of Gulfport.

This Ocean Enterprise Facility will be an expansion of USM’s Marine Research Center, opened at the Port of Gulfport back in September of last year. The site was selected because of its proximity to the water for vessel access, maintenance and testing.

The facility will serve as the center piece of research and development in the Gulf, further developing the initiatives of the Governor’s Ocean Task force and creating a unique maritime technology environment on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
