Grease pot causes kitchen fire in Pass Christian
Harrison County Fire Services responded to a house fire this afternoon on Meaut Road in Pass Christian.
Harrison County Fire Marshal Pat Sullivan says it started from grease left heating on the stove which led to the pot catching fire and caused damage to the kitchen and smoke throughout the house.
A teenager was inside the home at the time and heard the smoke detectors going off. That’s when he ran upstairs to get his sister out of the house then used a lid to cover the grease pot and smother the fire.
Sullivan explains covering the pot was the safe and effective way to extinguish the fire rather than pour water on the flames which could cause the fire to spread and result in serious burns.
No injuries were reported.
