Governor orders flags fly at half-staff to honor former House Speaker Billy McCoy
Governor Phil Bryant has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff to honor former Mississippi House Speaker Billy McCoy.
The Democrat from Prentiss County died Tuesday at age 77. McCoy served in the House from January 1980 to January 2012.
He was instrumental in passing a 1987 highway construction program and in overhauling Mississippi’s school funding formula a decade later.
Flags are being lowered Thursday and Friday. His funeral is Friday at Gaston Baptist Church near Booneville.
