Governor Bryant Declares Disaster Areas
Governor Phil Bryant says he wants a federal disaster declaration for some or all of the seven counties hit by last week’s deadly tornadoes.
Preliminary counts show 233 homes were destroyed or seriously damaged in the tornadoes. Another 463 homes received lighter damage.
Mississippi’s death toll from the tornadoes is now up to 11 after a Coahoma County resident died at a Memphis hospital, where they were being treated for injuries.
The state is asking FEMA for at least $4.2 million for damage to public and non-profit facilities.
