Government Street Sidewalk Improvements in Ocean Springs

Ocean Springs city officials want residents to know there will soon be an increase in traffic on the section of Government Street where construction is underway.
The improvement project on Government Street is adding and repairing deteriorated sidewalks along Government Street from Hanley to Hanshaw Road. The new sidewalks will benefit pedestrians and make safer commutes for students who walk to the elementary school nearby.
Ocean Springs aldermen say they have had a lot of calls about the construction lately and want to advise residents to take an alternate route if possible. Alderman Greg Denyer said, “The concrete trucks are going to be out in the road. You have to stop and you have to wait and go around and it’s going to be a little confusing. The school system is working with us and they’re redirecting some buses around so we don’t have that traffic. If there is any way you can go around it, it’s probably a good idea.”
Aldermen tell News 25 the sidewalk project is expected to take around three months.
