Gov. Talks of Issues He Hopes to See Pushed Through Legislature

As the 2015 Mississippi legislative session is moving out of the committee phase, changes could soon be coming.

Governor Phil Bryant spoke with News 25 Monday about the bills he is most looking forward to. As discussed in his annual State of the State Address, the Governor hopes to see a smart budget that gives back to the middle class. While M.D.A. created 6,000 jobs for the working class last year, he thinks more can be done.

Bryant says, “We’re looking at a budget that’s going to have $166 million more than we anticipated, so we’ll be able to fund the second half of the teacher pay raise. That’s a good thing, but just as important as that, to try to give a pay raise to the working people of the State of Mississippi. So my working class tax cut is coming along through the session. We hope that’ll get into place.”

Legislators expect to begin voting on bills in the general assembly starting as early as this week.
