Gov. Bryant on MAEP Formula

Governor Phil Bryant says it’s time to update Mississippi’s School Funding Formula saying the current “Mississippi Adequate Education Program” is outdated.

Bryant made the remarks at an event Thursday saying the current formula is a “1992 model”….arguing the state wouldn’t put state troopers in cars made in 1992, so we should fund education the same way.
MAEP was enacted in 1997, but has only been fully funded twice.
Republicans argue it’s a “Broken System” and state leaders hired consulting group “Edbuild” this summer to suggest revisions.
Lawmakers are awaiting Edbuild’s Recommendations.
