Golden Eagles conclude 2018 season in Fayetteville Regional

After losing back-to-back games just once prior to the Fayetteville Regional, the Southern Miss baseball team did it for a second time over weekend, promptly ending its 2018 post-season run.

USM won its opening game of the tournament versus Dallas Baptist and it was that same DBU squad that sent the Golden Eagles back to Hattiesburg, with a 9-4 triumph in yesterday’s elimination game.

It didn’t go all for naught for the Black and Gold as they can take a lot of pride in the year that was. Southern Miss won both the Conference USA regular crown and the league tournament in Biloxi becoming just the second team in program history to accomplish that feat and the first under Scott Berry. “What I don’t want to be overshadowed in our program and our season are all of the great things that this group accomplished, and that’s what we talked about there after the game. The regular season conference title, the tournament title, which is hard to do to win both of those. But more importantly, I think the way these young men grew and represented and learned about teamwork, not only for this year but for years to come.”

Southern Miss ends the 2018 season with an overall mark of 44-18, just six wins shy of last year’s 50 win team.
