Golden Eagles back in postseason play for first time since 2014

Now the Golden Eagles will be playing as the 12 seed versus number 5 Rice.
USM is looking for its first win over the Owls since 2014, the same year USM last took part in the conference tournament.
In the aftermath of the Donnie Tyndall saga, Southern Miss self-imposed a pair of one year post season bans, making the black and gold the only team in the entire field without a player with tournament experience.
The good news is even though they lost to Rice twice this year, both games were close. One was a three point loss at home and the second was a one point loss on the road in overtime.
Wednesday’s first round match up tips off at 2 p.m. from Legacy Arena in downtown Birmingham, Alabama.
