‘Go Set a Watchman’ Hit Shelves Today

The much anticipated new novel ‘Go Set a Watchman’ by Harper Lee hit store shelves today. The book is set about 20 years after the events of Lee’s Pulitzer Prize winning Novel ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.’
The novel has some of the same characters as “To Kill a Mockingbird” including the now 26-year-old Scout and her father Atticus Finch. The book is selling off the shelves but also evoking thought as early reviewers note that Atticus Finch expresses racist views in the story.
Etta Johnson, a Harper Lee fan, said, “It really is. It’s ongoing. It’s not just the 50’s and 60’s, it’s now. So, things that we can learn from ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, we can apply now.”
Brenda Blount, from Barnes and Noble Gulfport, said, “We’ve had quite a crowd this morning, so we’re really, really excited with this new launch and the book is doing very well and we expect it to continue.”
Barnes and Noble Gulfport opened two hours early today to accommodate the crowds and say they haven’t seen pre-sales like this since “Harry Potter.”
