Give Blood at USM Gulf Park Campus
Blood banks in South Mississippi remain low but local Red Cross representatives are taking steps to improve the deficit.
Today, the Red Cross stopped by USM’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach to collect blood donations. Pepper Ginder, vice president of the Student Nurses Association tells News 25, they hope to receive at least 25 pints today. That much blood could save around 75 lives. “It’s very important for others to get out and donate blood,” said Ginder, “Every pint that is donated helps three people. People with O positive, O negative, and any other negative type blood can come in and make a double donation if they make the weigh requirement and that will save six lives.”
Even though the drive was on USM’s Gulf Park campus, anyone in the area could come by and donate. The drive wrapped up at 2 this afternoon.
