It’s a girl! Denver Zoo debuts new baby rhino
The Denver Zoo is celebrating after the birth of its first greater one-horned rhino.
The calf arrived Saturday morning to mom tensing, but zoo staff has been waiting years for this little one.
The birth was the result of the 12th artificial insemination procedure.
The species is listed as “vulnerable” — although at one time it was on the verge of extinction.
Only 83 greater one-horn rhinos live in U.S. zoos — including this baby girl.
She doesn’t have a name yet. And the public won’t get to see her in person for several more weeks.
She’ll spend about two months with mom under the watchful eye of zookeepers.
