Getting ready for the Gautier Mullet and Music Fest

Something fishy is going on Saturday in Jackson County. The 30th annual Gautier Mullet and Music Fest is sure to safely lure in families and festivalgoers.

Over the years, people from all walks of life have been hooked on the annual Gautier Music and Mullet Fest. Chairman Wesley Ward said, “We have lots of activities out here. We have that Mullet Toss. We have a cast net contest. We have the Shriners out here who are going to do balloon animals. We have a cosplay contest which has cash prizes.”

Thirty years and going strong, there will be a few changes. Safety first as set up begins for Saturday’s event. “What we’ve done this year is we’ve put in different protocols. We have signs to remind people to be safe. We have hand wash stations. We’ve spaced things out apart. We have sanitizer, a lot of sanitizer to go around. We’re just going to be mindful to remind people to be safe. Wear a mask if you don’t feel comfortable. If you’ve been exposed to somebody, please stay home. Just keep your social distancing.”

Come Saturday, Gautier will be where people of all ages will be participating in the Mullet Toss, but win, lose, or draw, it’s the local community that wins because proceeds will be going right back into the local community.  Treasurer/ Financial Officer Guy Cagnolatti said, “At the end of the day, whatever we make as profits, we find local charities we donate to. Those will be announced some time at the end of this year or first of next year. We do things like scholarships for local high school. We donate money to our local animal shelter here in Jackson County.”

Admission is free and what a bargain. There will be plenty of food, a kids zone, live music, and local vendors to get a jump start on your holiday shopping.  “There will be a lot more vendors, and a nice reason to come see all the nice arts and crafts.”

The Gautier Mullet and Music Fest is set to take place Saturday, October 24th from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the lawn just west of the site of the old Singing River Mall.
