George County softball beats Saltillo 5-1 in Game 1 of 5A State Championship

After taking down Region 8 Class 5A rival East Central twice in one day last week, the George County softball team punched its ticket to the state championship series.

The Lady Rebels are now just one win away from immortality as they record the final out against Saltillo in game one at Southern Miss.

George County pounded out 12 hits and Irina Sanford delivered the big blow in the fourth inning with a bases loaded double. Eighth grader Peyton Collins dominant in the circle.

Game two is set for 6 p.m. tomorrow.
