George County investigates fatal fire in Barton Community

Deputies with the George County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fire in the Barton community on Thursday night at about 10:11 p.m.

The fire claimed the lives of 75-year-out Rachel Ware and 85-year-old Davis Ware. Both were residents of the home involved in the fire.

The Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office is working with the George County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the incident. Preliminary findings by the Fire Marshal indicate that the fire appears to have been accidental.

George County Sheriff, Mitchell Mixon has also spoken with George County Coroner, Deeann Murrah, who has ruled the deaths as accidental due to smoke inhalation. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
