Gautier Recognizes Champions of First Youth Super Bowl

Tuesday night, the Gautier City Council recognized the champions of the first ever Jackson County Youth Football Association Super Bowl.

The football association has been in existence for several years, but this year, a Super Bowl upped the competition. Gautier brought home the trophy in the 7-8 year old bracket and 11-12 year old bracket. Coaches say it’s about more than bragging rights. They check players’ grades and school behavior to ensure the boys are on the right track.

Chris Nelson, a football coach, says, “We just have a group of tremendous kids. I mean, it took a lot of hard work. These guys were up for the challenge and we put them through stuff that a lot of junior high and high school kids are doing.”

Nelson coached the 7-8 year old Jackson County Broncos through an undefeated season. The Jackson County Saints in the 11-12 year old division also won their league.
