Gautier receives $2.3 million grant for water quality improvement
Gautier Mayor Phil Torjusen has just announced the city will receive a $2.3 million federal grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality to help fund a water quality improvement project.
These ‘Restore Act’ funds will support critical citywide upgrades to Gautier’s wastewater system.
Mayor Torjusen says since 2009, Gautier residents have endured at least 54 sanitary sewer overflows from flooded wastewater systems, causing health and safety concerns, environmental damage, and irreparable damage to residents’ properties.
As part of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Water Quality Improvement Program and Funds, the city will install a new sanitary sewer system consisting of gravity lines, force mains, and a lift station with the new lines being installed along Old Spanish Trail and Gautier-Vancleave Road.
