Gautier mayor discusses 2022 plans for the city
The City of Gautier made a lot of progress in 2021. Mayor Casey Vaughan talks about the plans he has for 2022.
Last year, the City of Gautier elected a new mayor and purchased the former Singing River Mall property.
The city made the purchase to transform the rundown property into a town commons park with an amphitheater and a performing arts site. Mayor Casey Vaughan says he is looking to keep that momentum going for this year. “We got a lot of stuff going on. We look forward to our economic development that we have, comes with that, our infrastructure helps draw economic development and we are working on our twelve-year strategic plan.”
The city is focusing on infrastructure improvements with water, sewage, and roadways. “Water filtration system, we are waiting for permitting on that to be complete and also some sidewalk projects. Also, the county will have some infrastructure projects in the southern part of the city, the LaMotte Bayou Bridge.”
Community revitalization projects are also going on at Bacot Park. “If you drive by there you will see the basketball court covered pavilion has been completed. They are working on the fencing and the baseball field.”
The city is seeing economic growth with an upward trend in sales tax revenue in part to the new businesses, but Vaughn says he is thankful that old businesses are being purchased and rehabbed such as Hickory Hill Golf Course and Mary Walker Marina. “We look forward to all of our economic development with our economic development and revitalization comes tourism.”
