Gautier High School Hosts Veterans Breakfast

It was an emotional ceremony this morning, as loud praises and moments of silence filled the gymnasium at Gautier High School in remembrance of the sacrifices our soldiers have made for our freedom. The students held a veterans breakfast in honor of those who serve our country.
Young and old alike gathered at Gautier High School to show support and honor the men and women who have served our country. Veteran Pete Pope said, “I think it’s outstanding that these young people would honor them today. It makes me feel good to know that we have these patriotic young people coming up in our world.”
Veterans enjoyed their breakfast in the cafeteria before marching into a sea of American flags and the echo of that precious three letter word that ignites pride in their hearts.
These veterans weren’t the only ones the school honored today. They also remembered the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. “It never gets old because a lot of men and women gave their life fighting for this great country and I think we should never forget these people that gave that ultimate price with their life,” said Pope.
It was an emotional ceremony with quite the combination of people, from pip-squeak youngsters to veterans who served back in the 1940s.
High school students considering joining the service used this time to seek some advice and words of wisdom from the veterans. Gautier senior Lashun Love said, “I would like to do that before, so I can actually know what I’m actually getting into and what to expect when I go off to basic.”
With hands on their hearts and arms raised high, hundreds of students, faculty and American heroes stood proudly, honoring the land of the free because of the brave.
This is the 16th year Gautier High School has hosted this veteran’s breakfast. They hope to welcome more veterans to the school next year.
