Gautier-based Landscaping Company Paying $44,832 for Overtime Violations
A Gautier-based landscaping company is paying more than $40,000 dollars in back wages and damages after the U.S. Department of Labor found overtime violations during an investigation in Florida.
During the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, Gulf Breeze Landscaping LLC of Gautier worked in Florida’s Walton, Holmes, Washington and Jackson counties to help with recovery.
After an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, the Gautier landscaping company was ordered to pay $44,832 dollars in back wages and liquidated damages to 11 employees for violating overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Investigators found that Gulf Breeze Landscaping paid only straight-time rates to employees without regard to how many hours they worked, resulting in overtime violations when the employer failed to pay a time-and-a-half for hours worked beyond 40 hours in a work week, as the law requires.
