Gaston Point Community Center gym opens
Three years after the Gaston Point Community Center closed, kids in the community finally have a gym they can call home to play ball.
Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes was in attendance as the ribbon cutting for the renovated center took place this morning.
The gym was dedicated to Councilman Jimmie T. Jenkins, a life-long resident in Gaston Point who believed in investing in the community.
His son Barry Jenkins tells News 25 this is something his father would be very proud of. “It takes a village to raise young people. Whether it was with his kids or in the community, he always believed in investing. He believed if you train up a child, then he would go in the right way. So, my dad was really invested in the community. This is a real honor.”
