Gantry Cranes Come to the Port of Gulfport

Three ship to shore gantry cranes rolled in this morning at the Port of Gulfport.
The enormous cranes stand 225 feet in the air which is 55 feet taller than the Hancock Bank Building in downtown Gulfport. The total amount of the three cranes came out to $30 million, a fraction included in the port’s $570 million restoration project.
Officials tell News 25 the cranes will benefit tenants working at the port now and long into the future. Port of Gulfport Executive Director Jonathan Daniels said, “There’s a lot of work that could be customized and drive the price up pretty significantly, so we certainly do, we understand that they’re larger than we probably would have right now with the size of the vessel but even our existing tenants are looking at larger vessels. So again, being able to accommodate not only now but in the future was an important point for us.”
Officials are hoping to put the cranes to use in the next 60 to 90 days.
