Future USS George M. Neal christened at Ingalls Shipbuilding
PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WXXV)- The U.S. Navy has officially christened its newest guided missile destroyer, the future USS George M. Neal, during a ceremony at Ingalls Shipbuilding Division this weekend.
The flight III Arleigh Burke class destroyer is named in honor of George M. Neal, a Korean War veteran and Navy Cross recipient whose extraordinary courage and sacrifice continue to inspire generations of sailors.
The ship’s sponsor, Kelley Neal Gray, the daughter of George M. Neal, performed the traditional bottle-breaking ceremony, officially christening the vessel.
