Furlough Friday at Mockingbird Café in Bay St. Louis

Many locals on the Coast are still feeling the effects of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

To help make this time a little bit easier, many local businesses around the Coast are trying to help. The Mockingbird Café in Bay St. Louis is offering a free beer and bologna sandwich to anyone who comes into the shop with a government I.D. on a Friday.

Mockingbird Café Manager Laura Hurt says giving back is what keeps communities going. “You get down and you need a mental pick-me-up and you may be fine financially you just need a cute thing as a pick-me-up and if you’re not fine financially then you have a free sandwich and a beer.”

The Mockingbird Café will be hosting Furlough Friday every Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. until the government shutdown is over.
