Funeral for Officer Deen

Nearly 3000 people filled Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg to say their final goodbye to fallen Officer Benjamin Deen, or as his friends know him BJ.
Reverend Dwayne Higgason, chaplain of the Hattiesburg Police Department, said “BJ would want us all to get past this. He would say ‘cry for me yes, but carry on’”.
Although his funeral was sad, it focused not on grief but remembering all the wonderful things about a husband, father, son and a person who helped keep his community safe. One by one, those who knew him shared stories about the man who loved to hunt and enjoyed working outside.
Also present was the family of fellow officer, Liquori Tate, who was shot and killed along with Deen.
For his family, the Hattiesburg Police Department and the community, saying goodbye to Officer Benjamin Deen is the first step to moving on. They sent him off with one final message: “BJ, you will never be forgotten. Brother to brother, BJ, we remain yours in life and in death. We love you,” said Assistant Chief Frank Misenhelter.
