Frida Fest in Bay St. Louis
One artist left her mark on the Coast in a special way over the weekend.
The third annual Frida Fest took place Saturday at the Smith and Lens Art Gallery in Bay St. Louis to honor the late Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.
Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate the artist with arts and crafts, good conversation, and Frida inspired costumes. Self-portraits of Kahlo were placed all over the old-town area of Bay St. Louis. There was even a Frida look-a-like contest.
Festival Director Ann Madden tells News 25 how the Frida Fest started. “We came up with the idea. We asked people to join us. Some did, some opted out. We had more Fridas the first year than we expected and the second year we had more merchants join and this is probably our biggest attendance yet.”
The Frida look-a-like contest and Frida Festivals can be found at different art venues around the country.
