Fresh produce for Harrison County students
Students at three Harrison County schools will now get to enjoy fresh fruits and veggies all at no cost.
This is all thanks to three grants totaling almost $80,000. Bel Aire, Crossroad, and Pineville Elementary schools will be able to offer these healthy snacks for all students.
The funds from the grant cover costs of the fresh produce, serving supplies, equipment and additional labor needed to prepare the foods. Crossroads Elementary School Nurse Kerra Cox said, “The students on campus here, we have over 90 percent free and reduced lunch. This is another opportunity to provide them with a healthy snack throughout the day.”
Officials at Crossroads Elementary tell News 25 the program will run daily and is available to all students and will include many exotic fruits that the school wouldn’t be able to afford without the grant.
