“Freedom is Not Free Event” taking place in Downtown Moss Point today
From 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. today in Jackson County, everyone is invited to come out and show your support for our veterans at the “Freedom is Not Free Event” in Moss Point. This event is to honor all veterans and active duty personnel serving along the Mississippi Gulf Coast
It’s being put on by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber’s Veterans Committee, with the support of the City of Moss Point. It will take place at the Jackson County Veterans Memorial Monument.
This year’s keynote speaker is Nick Overby, Assistant Superintendent for the Moss Point School District, who had a commission in the U.S. Army Reserve as a 2nd Lieutenant.
United States Senator Roger Wicker shared a few words of his own regarding honoring our veterans.
Wicker said, “On this Veterans Day, Americans will gather to show their appreciation for the men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States military. Our nation’s veterans have kept this country free, prosperous, and the envy of the world. Military men and women do not stop helping their communities when they put away their uniforms. They are schoolteachers, business leaders, shipbuilders, policemen, and preachers. To put it simply, veterans are role models and vital parts of our communities. So, on this Veterans Day, take some time to say thank you.”
