Free parenting information series

Is your kid okay? That was the question asked tonight at Gulfport Behavioral Health System.

Tonight was the first of a four part series of information seminars for parents. This first session focused on bullying.

One of their main points for the parents who came out was that bullying doesn’t stop once your child leaves school. Bullying can happen anytime or anywhere especially now with the world of social media.

The center wanted to start this series right before summer and in May since it is mental health month. Angie Fields with Gulfport Behavioral Health System said, “The topics that we are talking about are ones that we’re encountering with the youth that come into the hospital. It’s part of educating the parents about what to look for and maybe how to deal with it in a way that is more helpful and maybe prevent kids from being admitted.”

These seminars are free and open to the public. If you would like to attend the rest of the four part series the next session will be held on Tuesday, May 7th focusing on suicide triggers.

On Thursday, May 16th they will be discussing stress in youth. To wrap up the series on Wednesday, May 22nd they will be talking troubling behaviors.

All of the sessions begin at 5:45 p.m. at the Gulfport Behavioral Health System’s gym.
