Free lunch during Spring Break

It is spring break for students on the Coast and the ‘Extend-a-Hand, Help-a-Friend Foundation’ wants to give Gaston Point and surrounding communities free lunch throughout the rest of the week.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., kids can go to Gaston Point Park where they will receive a nice meal and play a friendly game of kickball and other activities.

Today, more than 65 kids showed up to eat hot dogs and chips. The menu is supposed to get better as the week goes by.

Jeffrey Hulum III tells News 25 this benefits families who may depend on school meals to feed their children. “Some kids don’t have the financial stability to go on trips outside of the city. So, we just want to give them time while their parents are at work. You know, let them enjoy lunch and enjoy themselves on the playground. That’s all, just giving back to our communities.”

The ‘Extend-a-Hand, Help-a-Friend’ Foundation is all about giving back to the community with previous events like back to school drives and giving out scholarships to students in the area.
