Four sent to hospital after wreck on Highway 49

An infant was life-flighted to a trauma center and three other people were sent to the hospital after a wreck on Highway 49.

Just before 6 this evening, two cars wrecked on Highway 49 near Jim Lee Road. The car with the baby rolled over on its roof.

Harrison County Fire and Rescue had to extricate two people from the cars. Parts of Highway 49 were shut down temporarily while first responders treated the injured and cleared the roadway.

Officials want to remind everyone to be careful on the roads especially as we approach the Fourth of July. Trooper Cal Robertson said, “There is a lot of inattention that goes on, a lot of distracted driving that goes on. During the holiday season, we are going to be out in full force. There will be extra troopers out on the roadway and we are going to be addressing those issues.”
