Former Shuckers Catcher named Southern League Player of the Year
What a year to remember for former Biloxi Shucker Jakson Reetz, who was named Southern League Player of the Year today by Minor League Baseball.
A third-round selection of the Nationals in 2014, Reetz signed with the Brewers in December and went on to have a banner season as one of just 16 players in all of Minor League to hit 30 home runs, 22 of those coming with the Shuckers, leading the Southern League in homers, slugging, OPS, RBI, and hit-by-pitch during the time of his promotion to Triple-A Nashville in mid-July.
Reetz was later added to the Brewers 40-man roster, but was designated for assignment and signed with the Royals in August.
He joins Corey Ray in 2018 as the only other Shuckers player to win the award.
